Embassy Theatre: Heritage Brought Back to Life

Work is progressing inside the Embassy Theatre, once Maryborough’s grand entertainment destination. Built in the 1930s, the Embassy is remembered as a picture palace and social landmark. Restoration efforts are now focused on preserving and reinstating its historic interior, including original plasterwork, decorative ceilings, and the theatre’s unique architectural features.

The vision is to reopen the Embassy as a space for live performance, exhibitions, and cultural events — reigniting its role as a stage for the community. The team has also appealed for public support in tracking down lost heritage items such as original projectors and chandeliers that once adorned the theatre. The Embassy’s revival will be a defining milestone in Maryborough’s transformation into a modern cultural hub.
