Allan Hutchins, one of the team of archaeologists from Converge Heritage + Community, helped us to excavate the 1860s Well that we discovered a few weeks ago. During this process we found lots of interesting bottles, bones and oyster shell, broken candle holders, tobacco pipes, lots of corks and a range of other objects.

Some of the more interesting finds were a number of leather shoes in various states of preservation like the one in the first photo which is also our find of the week. The finds support our original assessment that the well dates back to the Carpenter's Arms which was built on the site in 1863 and that it was likely filled when construction of the current Hotel occurred in 1885.  Hope you like the photos and have a great weekend!
